Heritage Gallery : Tanay Church Main Retablo 1960s

Elizabeth Fulgueras Tungohan, a Tanayan now in Chicago posted on Oct. 22, 2009 two photos shown below (CLICK IMAGES FOR CLOSER VIEW) :

attachment 1 - taken february 11, 1963 - feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes - my mom's devotion to our lady, kaya ito ipinagawa niya. unang-una Siyang iniligtas nang masunog ang palengke, pangalawa ako dahil tulog ako (lol). notice the communion rail, iyong (i don't know how you call it..not SMA..help ellen, right background, sa may ulo ng tia ramonita na ginagamit ng sacristan sa gitna, tapos 2 sacristan sa magkabilang tabi eh hawak naman iyong kandila, which is to the left by my nanay). sayang lang at natakpan ng karo, pero, the center is the altar, makintab, di bah? nuong araw ang pari ay nakatalikod pa during mass?

The first photo was taken in February 1963 and the second on sometime April 1963 during SIC Elementary Graduation inside the Tanay Church.

The photos show:
The silver panels in front of the Altar.
The Communion Railing that is made of Narra.

This is an illustration of how photos posted to earthtanay from Tanayans will establish the heritage history of our National Cultural Treasure Church of San Ildefonso de Toledo, possible only with the help of the living church of Tanay - her people who are part of it as much as the saints in her beautiful retablos.

Heritage Gallery : Tanay Church Main Retablo

In earthtanay, Nora C. Pena commented:
"I agree with the project on heritage policy for our beloved church in Tanay. I am not an expert as to architecture and what is a Franciscan mission. However, I had seen the Basilica de Sto. Nino in Cebu City and the Baclayon Church in Bohol. The altars are similar to ours, including the retablo for the saints. The ceiling of the Baclayon church has also the four evangelists painted. The choir loft in Baclayon is similar to ours. And the Cebu and Bohol churches are Augustinian built. Perhaps ours is built by the Augustinian Friars, although the Franciscans started the mission. The Franciscans don't have much elaborate decors in their altars."

Photos of the Tanay Church Retablo (Before 2005, and after 2005), REtablo of the Basilica de Sto Nino in Cebu City, and the Retablo of the Baclayon Church in Bohol are shown below so they can be visually compared.

This is the Central Retablo of the Tanay Church prior to 2005.

This is the Central Retablo of the Tanay Church after 2005.

This is the retablo of the Basilica de Sto. Nino in Cebu City

This is the retablo of Baclayon Church in Bohol.

Let us all visually compare the retablos. I posted the photo of the Main Tanay Retablo prior to 2005 because that is the condition of our Heritage Church when it was declared as one of the 26 Churches in the Philippines as a National Cultural Treasure through a Document issued by the National Museum on July 31, 2001. Personally, this is also the image of the Tanay Main Retablo that I grew up seeing and undeniably miss.

All are invited to post comparative comments. There will be a research done to acertain the significant facts relevant to the comments of Nora and will be posted when properely sourced.

Thank you Nora for your interest in the development of a heritage policy for our beloved Tanay Church. This endeavor is a collective effort for all Tanayans !
